Challenge
In market research, every study ends in numbers: the survey data produces results as plain text, which have to become clear table reports in Excel for the client, along with the statistical measures that turn results into conclusions you can stand behind. That translation was handled by a VBA macro that had grown over the years. Over time it had become painfully slow and no longer ran through reliably.
Solution
The workflow was rebuilt as a .NET add-in: the text files are read in, the statistics are calculated in compiled, tested code, and what comes out is the finished table report in Excel.
Result
The result is around a hundred times faster than before and runs reliably to the end, even on the large studies.
