Deadline tracking, a client portal or asset management: a web application follows your workflow, not the other way round. Built as a website, it needs no installation and is available to every employee right away, as part of how you already work.
A web application is the right choice when a process has to run under control. In an open system like Excel it happens fast: one deleted row, one wrong keystroke, and every formula is broken. Or someone accidentally works in a colleague’s original file, and that colleague no longer understands the world afterwards. Through user permissions, a web application gives you full control over what a user may create and change, and what not.
The application stays reachable on the go. You and your staff stay flexible and work on one centrally managed set of data. Login can run through your existing Microsoft accounts, for example, with no new password to remember. Your IT keeps the overview of who may sign in and when, and can lock an employee out in an instant.
Through interfaces, an application like this still fits into your existing environment, so exporting logs or lists to Excel is no problem. Questions such as who changed what and when are a thing of the past. Duplicate data entry disappears too: an asset or a contact is created once and then referenced automatically in every other function of the application.
A web application can also be embedded in the Office programs you already use, for example into Excel or Outlook.
